I can easily get bored, especially when I’m on my own all day trying to write my dissertation meaning I turn to social media to keep me company so to say. I’m trying to not spend as much time on my phone, so I have decided to try new things to occupy my brain and these are my favourite activities to do.
Read a book
There’s something so magical about reading that I just can’t explain. Getting lost in a story and building a relationship with characters is just the best feeling. I would really recommend reading a book to occupy your mind, check out some of my favourites here and my latest reviews here.
Colouring
This is something that I have only just started doing but I’m really enjoying it. Seeing outlines of black and white come to life with colours engages the creative side of the brain and before you know it, hours have passed by. Procrastination at its finest.
Bullet Journaling
After reading a book, this is my next favourite thing to do to occupy time and my mind. Putting pen to paper and creating doodles, quotes and illustrations whilst planning and keeping track of things going on in your life can help organise the brain. If you want some ideas for your bullet journal, take a look at my June setup here and watch this space for more bullet journal posts!
Start a new series
Whether that be on TV, Netflix or Prime, starting a new series can easily occupy your mind and keep you off social media – apart from tweeting about the latest developments in the show! If you want some new series to watch, my post here tells you what you might want to watch.
Go for a walk
This is the best thing to do when the weather is good like we have been experiencing recently in England and the best way to get those 10,000 steps in! I love just taking myself off into town, to the park (where I would read or sunbathe) or just round the block making the most of the weather. The only thing that I miss about home is the countryside walks I could have all the time – don’t get much of that in Northampton town centre!
What are your favourite things to do to occupy yourself?

I love colouring and bullet journalling. This is a great list!

It’s so relaxing isn’t it! And before you know it, you’ve read 100 pages and like an hour has gone by! Ahh I’ve never heard of them, I will add them to my list! Thanks for the recommendation! ☺️xxx

This is a great list, I used to love my adult colouring books but I haven’t done any for so long I think I need to get them back out! You’ve included all my favourite things in this list: reading, walking and watching a good series! We’ve been watching Chicago Fire and I’m hooked, it’s amazing and once we’ve finished it we want to start Chicago PD too as they’re all interlinked!

i also like your list! Another idea (which might not be that much to everyone) is for example cleaning or getting rid of old or unused stuff

Thank you! They are indeed, I can imagine painting is and that’s also a great idea to occupy yourself! I know, it’s mainly when I walk to and from work which is 5 miles that I hit 10,000 steps! Thank you for commenting 💖xx

I definitely agree with all of these options! (Reading a book is one of my favorite too!)
I start coloring last year and it’s actually also really relaxing because you’re only focussing on what you are coloring and nothing else. Starting a series is also what I often do, but it’s soooo hard to stop after you start haha You end up finishing the whole series in a week.
In my case I would also add cooking or baking to the list. It’s a great way to treat yourself and occupy your mind. And it makes you happy! (also because you get to eat the cake in the end of your cooking session ;P)

I have a bunch of books collecting dust yet I’m always looking for more. I’m pretty sure i’m more of a book collector than a reader at this point, but with that being said, I’ll definitely be checking out your book list for new possible purchases lol. I have 2 adult coloring books but I barely use them. I gotta start back on those. Great ideas!
